Gleeds appointed as cost manager on ‘Royal Wharf’ the residential centrepiece of the Royal Docks in East London

International management and construction consultancy, Gleeds, has been appointed by Oxley Wharf Limited as cost manager on the transformation of the Royal Docks, ‘Royal Wharf’ district. The project will create the biggest new neighbourhood since Canary Wharf and provide 3,385 new homes accommodating an estimated population of over 10,000 people.

The development will accommodate high specification and affordable homes, covering an area of 363,000sqm and will be constructed across three phases. The regeneration of the 38 acres of land is expected to create thousands of jobs as well as housing along the 12 mile waterfront, which is set to be transformed into one of London’s newly created ‘urban districts’. The plans include a new high street, school, restaurants and parks. In addition, the existing Docklands Light Railway station will join with Crossrail from 2018 improving accessibility. 

The first phase, which will create 811 new homes, started on site in March. Following the completion of demolition and remediation works, site infrastructure will commence in October. The main works for phase one are due to complete as soon as 2016.

Before its appointment as cost manager, Gleeds provided Early Contract Involvement (ECI) due diligence services which helped bring the Singaporean investor and developer Oxley’s purchase to a successful conclusion prior to December 2013. The consultancy is now working collaboratively with Ballymore Group who is acting as Development Advisor for the UK market.
