Gleeds strengthens rail team with 2 new appointments

Gleeds has appointed Ian Bayes and Paul Carey as Directors of infrastructure and rail for the south east. The pair will support the firm’s rail team who have seen rail related activity increase by over 50% in the past 12 months.

Ian joins after more than ten years at Mott McDonald where he was Projects Director and Commercial/Operations Manager in their London office, while Paul comes to Gleeds following a successful career as Programme Commercial Manager on Crossrail at Network Rail.

Ian will form part of the team looking to provide commercial services on projects resulting from Gleeds’ recent appointment to the £5 million Thameslink framework. He will also utilise existing estimating and commercial management services to develop and deliver opportunities with key clients such as Network Rail, Transport for London (TfL), and Local Authorities.

Having gleaned extensive experience in the rail industry, Paul is already based on site with Crossrail where he is supporting Network Rail project teams with claims and guiding them through the internal governance process. He is also part of Gleeds’ project audit division, working on behalf of the Network Rail Crossrail Central team.

Commenting on the appointments, Martin Smalley, Head of Rail at Gleeds said, “I am delighted to welcome Ian and Paul to our growing rail team in London. With appointments ranging from the Merseyrail framework, to assisting in the delivery of the Old Oak Common train depot for Bombardier plus thousands of property surveys for HS2, Gleeds has seen its rail operation double in the last year. I am sure that Ian and Paul, with their depth of experience, will enable us to continue this pattern of success.”
