Gleeds participates in UK’s largest national employee volunteering day
Gleeds offices across the UK will be taking part in Business in the Community’s Give and Gain Day, the UK’s largest national day of employee volunteering, from Monday 16th to Friday 20th May.
This year will be the first time the fundraising initiative will run across a full week. It will see 40 Gleeds UK employees volunteering in 4 different projects across the UK, with events in Cardiff, Leeds and London. Employees will be donating their time and resource to complete a number of different activities including gardening, decorating and painting.
On Monday 16th May, the London office will visit St Christopher’s Fellowship. The charity provides care and accommodation to vulnerable and homeless young people through children’s homes, supported housing schemes and fostering placements. The team will spend the day decorating alongside those living at the children’s home, helping to revitalise the communal living space.
Gleeds Property Network (GPN), the organisation’s social and education network, will be volunteering in Cardiff, Leeds and London. The committees within Gleeds’ South West, South East and North West regions will be leading their teams of 10 volunteers on Friday 20th May.
In Cardiff, GPN South West will be volunteering at Cosmeston Medieval Village in Penarth, a heritage attraction owned and run by the local council. GPN members will help complete general works to improve visitor grounds, including painting and gardening.
GPN South East will be supporting The Nehemiah Project, an organisation working with men wishing to break free from substance abuse to rebuild their lives. The group will help improve outdoor space used by Nehemiah residents. This will include planting vegetable and herb patches.
Will Marshall, Chair of GPN South East said: “This is our 8th year supporting Give & Gain Day, since it began back in 2009. We’ve always found the volunteering days hugely rewarding, it’s great to leave the office for a day and help out people within our local community.”
The final team of 10 from GPN North West will be at Parklands School in Leeds, working alongside Lloyds Bank, Emsley Collins Solicitors and local companies, helping the school to complete a number of refurbishment projects. The Gleeds team will focus their efforts on decorating and painting the library and conference room.
