As the successful bidder for cost management services, Gleeds will be responsible for the delivery of projects across the Board’s entire portfolio which carry construction values of up £4m each.

In appointing Gleeds the Health Board made reference to the significant value that their vast healthcare sector experience will bring, including specialist knowledge across all areas of the Health Boards portfolio. It was noted that the Gleeds team demonstrated an understanding and appreciation of the complex and unique requirements of the Health Board as a result of more than ten years of working in collaboration.

Gleeds has previously worked alongside the Board on other high-profile projects such as the redevelopment of Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, on which it acted as project and cost manager via the Design for Life framework.

Brian McArdle, Director of Gleeds responsible for the North Wales region, said: “As specialists in the healthcare sector, Gleeds has worked closely with a number of Health Boards and NHS Trusts, including BCUHB, to help them maximise efficiencies across their portfolios through the application of detailed cost analysis. We therefore have a thorough understanding of the ever-changing needs of such bodies, as well as the local issues impacting individual trusts and the effect of the national political landscape. This experience means we are ideally placed to support the BCU Health Board as it seeks to make long-term improvements to its services, to the enormous benefit of patients.”

The BCU Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales, providing a complete range of services for approximately 676,000 people across North Wales and North Powys. It is responsible for the operation of three District General Hospitals, 22 additional acute and community hospitals, and over 90 health centres, clinics, community health team bases, and mental health units.

Gleeds provides specialist project management, cost management and advisory services to clients across the healthcare sector throughout the UK, with recent appointments including cost management of Midland Metropolitan Hospital and project and cost management of the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
