Gleeds team get their hands dirty to improve opportunities for local people

A team from Gleeds' Bristol office has taken part in a day’s volunteering to support Windmill City Farm, a registered charity located in Bedminster, near Bristol’s city centre.

On Friday 30th June, 17 of Gleeds’ construction consultants were suited and booted before being shown their volunteering duties for the day. Their activities included taking on several mini projects such as repairing a fence, planting a new vegetable garden and feeding and tending to the farm’s many animals. By assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of the farm, the volunteers have ensured that the charity can continue its’ hugely valued and award winning work in Bristol – including the far reaching contribution that it makes to the local community.

Windmill City Farm provides a friendly setting that aims to improve the lives of local people through its services and facilities. It runs activities for people with health and social care needs and provides opportunities for personal development through courses and volunteering, regularly hosting other organisations with similar aims and objectives.

Gleeds director for Bristol, Chris Paxford said: “Windmill City Farm plays an important role in our community so it is great that we can give something back. I hope our volunteering efforts have helped support the farm, and in return provided us with an opportunity to develop a few new skills!”

Windmill City Farm was set up in 1976 by a group of local residents determined to see a piece of inner city wasteland put to more productive use, giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming in the heart of the city.
